Let’s
see. What did we do today?

Actually
I did a bit of proofing, making corrections to my latest 60 chapter, 5000 page,
500,000 word story. Hey! Purupuss wrote it! You wouldn’t expect anything less!
I
forgot to say that when we were taking the photos of the wharf last night we
noticed that Bach 56, or whichever number they call it… We know it as Taylor’s
or Bell’s… Hang on… It can’t be 56 as we’re 54 and there’s at least four baches
between us. Maybe it’s 32? Anyway… The museum bach was wide open. Not being
aware that anyone was going to be down here we went up to check and found two
ladies occupying it. They were from Auckland Zoo and were over here studying the
skink and gecko population on Rangitoto. (The Department of Conservation keeps
an eye on the lizards on Motutapu) What was pleasing was that most of those
that they find are Copper Skinks – i.e. natives (I think), and not Rainbows. So
that’s good news.
This
afternoon we packed up. That means doing things like putting away the flag and
putting away the flagpole; bringing in the solar panel and bringing in the table
that the solar panel sits on; packing our bags and then unpacking them again
when we find that we’ve packed away something that we need…
That’s
the problem, there’s only so much you can pack away. The solar panel hangs in a
window to drip feed the batteries, but if we were to put it up tonight the room
would be too dark and we’d decapitate ourselves on the cable. Similarly we
could put the shutters and the banner that block the windows up, but then we’d
probably sleep through not realising that it was morning. Similarly we can’t
lock up the cupboards until we’ve used everything in them and we won’t have
finished using everything in them until after we’ve had breakfast tomorrow. It
usually means that if we catch the first ferry (which, sadly, is the plan), it’s
a mad dash to get everything locked away or in our bags for transportation. (Mind
you, packing the bag first thing is going to be even worse on Saturday as we
hurry to catch the train and try to jam our PJs and ablutions gear into our
already full cases.)
See
you in Auckland.
